Today we are going to learn the Water density at different temperatures!
Supplies Needed
2 Glasses
Cold Water
Ice
Hot Water
Food Coloring -Red
A cardboard
Step 1 – Begin by filling one glass with ice and cold water. Fill the 2nd glass with hot water along with adding red food coloring.
Step 2 – Place the cardboard on the top of the hot water glass and flip it over and place it on the glass with cold water.
You’ll notice right away that the food coloring from the hot water is not mixing with the cold water.
Even though the glasses of water look the same, the difference in the water temperature causes the molecules that make up the water to behave differently.
Since hot water is less dense than cold water it stays up and you can also see that ice floats on top of the hot water because it is even less dense than hot water
