Destiny is almost ten years old now, and it’s a series that’s seen quite a few highs and lows. One of the lowest, without a doubt, is the launch of Destiny. It was a time of disappointment, especially in the campaign. I had heard so many bad things about Destiny's campaign by that point, so I never even bothered to finish it.
Well, in the leadup to the Final Shape expansion, I finally went back to play Destiny’s campaign. And, I was surprised. I ended up having a blast playing through it. In fact, I would even go as far as to call it good.
In this Retrospective essay, I'm going to examine destiny's campaign, and see why it's better than people give it credit for. But, despite the campaign being better than people say, I STILL think people’s disappointment in it is entirely warranted. So I’ll go into how the campaign can be both enjoyable but also disappointing.
