Violent Protesters at the DNC. The day before the DNC there were protests, but they were peaceful. Things got a little more violent on the second day of protests. Protesters delayed buses and breached a security fence. : When someone becomes overly excited or emotional and loses control.

: A group responsible for protecting important government officials.

10. Protectees
: People who are protected by security, like the Secret Service.
: The protectees were safely escorted into the building despite the large crowd of protesters.
11. Attendees
: People who go to an event like a meeting, conference, or convention.
: The attendees at the DNC had to pass through several security checks due to the protests.
12. Delaying
: Causing something to take longer or happen later than planned.
: The protesters were delaying the start of the DNC by blocking the main roads.
13. Like-minded people
: People who share the same opinions or beliefs, who feel the same way you do
: The protesters were like-minded people who all wanted the same changes from the DNC.
14. De-escalation
: Actions taken to reduce tension or calm a situation down.
: The police used de-escalation techniques to prevent the crowd from becoming violent.
15. Tear gas
: A chemical used by police that makes people’s eyes sting and tear up, used to control crowds.
: The police had to use tear gas when some of the protesters became aggressive.
16. Batons
: Short, heavy sticks carried by police, often used for crowd control.
: The police held their batons but did not use them unless a protester got too close.
