When we study the First World War, most people focus on the great battles and horrible trench conditions of the battlefield. However, for most people who were alive during the war years of 1914 to 1918, they would have had no direct experience of the warzone. Instead, they remained in their communities and tried to support the war effort as civilians. This was known as the ‘home front’. In this video, we will explore what life was like for those living in Australian during World War One and discover how some people banded together to support their friends and families in the armed forces, while others tried to solve the growing inequalities faced by the poor.
