The split backstitch is similar to the split stitch and can be used in the same way. The stitches create a continuous line that nicely hugs tight curves. This makes the stitch perfect for fine lines, such as for lettering or black-and-white drawings. However, the split backstitch also works well for filling areas. Unlike other filling stitches, this stitch isn't limited in size, allowing you to fill areas as large as you like.
