In May 2024, Amazon announced that the Application Load Balancer (ALB) supports IPv6-only connectivity from clients across the internet. Previously, the ALB only supported dual-stack mode with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, or IPv4-only modes. With this change, you can now provision an ALB that accepts only IPv6 connections on its outer interface, while still using dual-stack mode to communicate with its registered targets. In this video, Trevor Sullivan demonstrates how to set up an Amazon VPC from scratch, an EC2 instance with an application container, and an ALB with an IPv6-only endpoint.
