Swadeshi Mela 2024: A Resounding Success in Naperville, Illinois, emerged as the largest Indian fair.
Naperville, Illinois – September 18, 2024 – The Swadeshi Mela 2024, held from September 12-15 at the Mall of India in Naperville, Illinois, concluded with remarkable success, attracting around 30,000 visitors and showcasing more than 105 vendors from India and the local community. Organized by Dtribals Foundation (Not for Profit 501 C3), the Indian American Trade Fair featured a vibrant display of India’s rich cultural heritage through a wide range of artifacts, handloom products, handicrafts, and traditional goods from various Indian regions, and exhibitors from local and out of state.

Several distinguished guests, including Consul General of India Shri Somnath Ghosh, Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dr. M. Beena Development Commissioner (Handloom) from the National India Handloom Promotion Council, Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli, Congressman Bill Foster, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Chicago Alderman David Moore, Illinois State Senator Laura Ellman, Aurora Alderwomen Shweta Baid and DuPage County Board Member Patty Gustin, attended the Mela. Their presence emphasized the cultural and economic importance of the event, highlighting the growing prominence of the Indian American community in the region.
In a special highlight, the Mela was graced by the presence of Shri Adarsh Shastri, grandson of India’s former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, adding cultural and historical significance to the event.

A major attraction of the Mela was a live concert by Padma Shri Kailash Kher, whose electrifying performance captivated thousands of attendees. Other notable activities included a state handloom exhibition and a lively Garba and Dandiya night, Masala coffee Band which celebrated India’s diverse cultural traditions and enthralled visitors with vibrant music and dance.
The closing ceremony saw the participation of Mr. Arun Sao, Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, who addressed the gathering in Chhattisgarhi, promoting community pride. Mr. Sao also recognized the event's grand, platinum, and gold sponsors, as well as community organizations that contributed to the success of the Mela. He spoke passionately about the rich traditions of Chhattisgarh and invited attendees to visit the state, assuring them of continued governmental support to elevate future editions of the Swadeshi Mela.

As a unique outdoor event blending shopping, food, entertainment, and social engagement, the Swadeshi Mela 2024 has firmly established itself as a key cultural event in Chicagoland. The organizers expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming response.
Deepali Saraogi, the Founder of Dtribals Foundation, expressed that this year's event was a tremendous success. She highlighted the foundation's commitment to supporting international artisans and small industries while promoting trade between India and the USA. Saraogi also extended her gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and visitors, stating, "We are thrilled to bring this unique festival to Naperville, providing an excellent opportunity to promote brands, explore diverse artworks, and facilitate business networking.
The foundation will host the same 3rd edition in next year, the date will be published soon. She also thanked Naperville SECA commission for providing financial grant to host this event in city of Naperville, IL.
