Eric agrees that a plant based diet will reverse diabetes, but says that 99% of Americans won’t do it. This is merely opinion that is changeable and may be based on his own experience or inexperience with a vegan diet. A lot of people won’t change their diet, but a plant based diet is actually more enjoyable and sustainable than people think at first. When people are struggling with health, they will look for an answer – either drugs or diet – it can be a process of trial and error – I want to make it easy to choose. There are lots of resources are available for those who are willing to make changes, even gradual or smaller ones than fully vegan.
Supplementing plants with eggs, fish and poultry while eliminating all sugar and carbs from wholegrains and white rice sounds like a paleo type diet. It might be healthier than a SAD, but really, is just a distraction from the real solution to the diabetes, obesity, heart disease epidemic – it can be harder to limit these foods than to eliminate them completely, unless one is transitioning from a SAD to plant based. Eggs, poultry and fish do not raise blood sugar but it’s oversimplifying how people get diabetes or how to prevent or reverse it. Simply telling people to eat foods that don’t raise blood sugar can actually be harmful because those foods that don’t raise blood sugar are high in fat relative to most fruit, whole grains and beans, and contribute to the problem if eaten in excess (as explained in my sugar myths 1 video).
Junk carbs have been defined by Eric as including many health promoting foods eaten on a whole foods plant based diet – this is probably why he thinks it’s unsustainable or undesirable. it may also be that in social situations it can be harder, as well as maybe just loving the taste of eggs or fish. I've given some suggestions on how to make it easier to go plant based.

Rice diet by Walter Kempner – patients were fed fruit, fruit juice, white rice, and refined sugar – obesity and diabetes reversed, eating all they cared for – sugar is clearly not the problem – combine lots of sugar with lots of fat and you have a problem.

I'm a high carb vegan, and have been for over 4 years. I lost belly fat and significantly reduced severe acne through becoming vegan. I share videos that I hope will help you on your journey to becoming healthier, while also being kinder to the animals and the environment.
