daulatabad fort
Daulatabad Fort, also known as Devgiri Fort, is a historical fort in Daulatabad, Maharashtra, India. It is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Aurangabad, and is a major tourist attraction in the region.
The fort was originally built in the 12th century by the Yadava dynasty, who named it Devgiri Fort. It was later renamed Daulatabad, which means "City of Wealth," by Muhammad bin Tughluq, the Sultan of Delhi, when he made it the capital of his kingdom in the 14th century.
The fort is known for its strategic location, as it sits atop a hill that rises almost 600 feet above the surrounding plain. It has a series of walls and gates, and the interior of the fort includes several palaces, temples, and other buildings.
The fort has a long and storied history, and has been a site of many battles over the centuries. It was captured by the Marathas in the 17th century, and was later used as a British garrison during the colonial period.
Today, Daulatabad Fort is a popular tourist destination, and is known for its historical and architectural significance. It is open to the public, and visitors can explore the fort's many structures and learn about its history.
The hike towards the top may be exhaustive for some so do carry some water along but the hike is worth it also recommended to hire a guide as the place is really cost efficient and not overpriced like other places in India
Getting down the fort was faster then expected
Post the hike we went to our place to get some sleep and prepare for the next day
