STANDARD UNITS OF MEASUREMENTS
Scientists all over the world have accepted a standard unit of measurement known as International System of Units or SI Units. One meter has 100 divisions known as the Centimeters. Each centimeter has 10 equal divisions called millimeters. Hence 1m=100 cm and 1cm=10mm. For measuring longer distances we use Kilometers as units. 1km= 1000m.
ACCURATE MEASUREMENT
Different devices are used for measuring which include meter scale, measuring tape or a measuring rod. A suitable device has to be used for measuring a particular object. While measuring something we need to keep the following points in mind:
Scale has to be placed along the object, along its length.
Avoid using scales that are broken at the corners.
Check the position of your eye while taking measurement.
Experiment:
Have you ever tried to measure your height by standing against the wall? This is one of the simplest ways to measure your height. Stand against the wall and ask your friend to mark the point on the wall just above your head using a scale. Now measure the distance between the floor and the point. This will give you the measurement of your height.
