Professor Alice Sullivan, who is Professor of Sociology in the Social Research Institute at UCL, is a quantitative social scientist who has expertise in using and working with large and very large quantitative datasets. In this video case Professor Sullivan discusses with Professor Jo Phoenix what ‘gender critical’ means, why she fought the ONS (Office for National Statistics) for retention of the female/male sex category on the Census 2021 and some of the challenges she faced in doing so (7:25).
In the final part of the interview (approximately 18 minutes) both Profs discuss some of the chilling effect experienced by individuals who hold (or are thought to hold) gender critical beliefs in British Universities today and the relationship between activism, politics, politicking and knowledge production.
