Thyroid is swelling is a swelling that is seen in the middle of t he neck, in the lower portion just below the voice box and just above collar bones in the midline. This is seen in young kids and little girls around the age of puberty and it is also seen in people who are hyperthrtyoid and low on thyroid functions people who are low on iodine are seen with this problem. It is seen in young children and women as Hashimotos thyroiditis, where there is increased size if thyroid and as a result this is seen. There are areas of thyroid that is enlarged in size and they stop functioning, there is a cold area where it doesn’t produce any thyroid hormones. Sometimes you can have cysts within thyroid and can cause swelling . Tumors can cause swelling of the thyroid. There are reasons why thyroid can cause swelling and cause respiratory embarrassment. Sometimes it can cause difficulty in swallowing.
