$100K Bike Lane That Even The Cyclists Don't Use - WHY?
Bike riders & Cyclist safety is important so why is a $100,000 dedicated bike lane being ignored by Cyclists? This bike lane is at Berowra in Sydney's northern suburbs. It was developed between 2021 - 2023 by Federal, State and Local Government to make Cycling safer. I'm working on a complicated video that investigates the history and ongoing problems that this Bike Lane is creating.
A trend that's developed during 2024 is large amounts of Cyclists are just ignoring the Bike Lane. What happens if a car crashes into a Cyclist who is riding outside of a dedicated Bike Lane? Who's at fault? It's a legal nightmare.
The law states this : Bicycles are allowed to take up a road lane when riding on the road. However, if there is a bicycle lane (with a BICYCLE LANE sign) in the same direction that you are travelling, you must use that lane.
If it is impractical to ride in the bicycle lane (for example, because of an obstacle or construction works), then you are permitted to ride on the road.
I have done one early study of this Bike Lane after it was used for a few months, at least back then Cyclists were using it.
