The Yankees-Red Sox rivalry goes back to 1919 when Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees for $100,000. For the rest of the century, the Yankees were the best franchise in baseball while the Red Sox were a team of misfortunes plagued by the curse of the bambino. From the 1946 World Series to 1967 to Bucky Dent to Bill Buckner to the 1999 ALCS, the Yankees always found a way and the Red Sox didn't. But things changed after 2003 when Aaron Boone sent the Yankees to the World Series with a walk-off home run. The Red Sox would come back from a 3-0 deficit over the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS and would go on to win the World Series to break their curse. With the fights, hatred, and level of play, 2003-2004 was the absolute peak of the rivalry.
