In our Assam spiritual journey, we also came across two beautiful quaint captivating village of Assam named Nishangram that claims to be the cleanest village of India.
Located in Dudhnoi Circle of Goalpara district close to Megahalya-Assam border, Nishangram village is inhabited by the people of Garo tribe for ages. The pure-hearted hard work and warm friendly nature of Garo tribe have made it one of the cleanest villages of Assam.
Set amidst the beautiful natural setting and warm hospitable community, a visit to this village is an unforgettable experience. We spent 2 days and 1 night at Asomi Rural Homestay in Nishangram.

We explored the lifestyle of the villagers including their local food and its preparation, fishing, farming and various tourist locations in the vicinity.
We were surprised to know that Garo community is a matrilineal society founded on the kinship principle with the mother or the female line.
