System overload! GVWR, it's just a number, right?
Turns out Ford was serious about a half ton being the limit to these vans. Here is an idea, when the tires are bulged badly and fully pressurized, maybe, just maybe there is too much weight in the back. CAll me crazy, but GVWR means hey, Buddy, stop putting stuff in the van!
