Brian, although very popular in none other than the Emerald Isle itself, may have not played a big role in the history text books of many other schools like that of Alexander, Julius Caesar, or Genghis Khan, Brian however has played a key role in that of Irish history and identity. He was the first to truly turn the Irish wet dream into reality and thus inspires many seldom sober, red haired potato farmers to this very day. But to put it in the words of Roger Chatterton Newman the author of Brian Boru King of Ireland; “And at Armagh Brian rests to this day; far from the woods and mountains of his beloved Thomond, far from the wild tracts where, as a youth, he had led a band of Dalcassians to harry the Danes. .... Only a modern slab, set in the outside wall of the north transept commemorates the fact that he is buried there at all, but it is nevertheless a fitting resting place, in the grounds hallowed by the greatest figure in Irish spiritual history; a figure, like Brian who rose from relative obscurity to cause his adopted country to be more than a fleeting shadow on the page of history. But while the work of the former slave-boy prospered and withstood the buffets of future centuries, the work of Brian Boru died with him.”
