Sandip Ghosh Arrest: Former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh was placed in CBI custody for eight days following his arrest in a corruption case linked to the institution. As the CBI probes the rape-murder of a junior doctor and financial irregularities at the hospital, the West Bengal Assembly passed a new anti-rape Bill, with CM Mamata Banerjee praising it as "historic." The Bill introduces capital punishment for severe rape cases and includes the creation of a special police unit.
