So you have the dental implants placed, now what?
This video provides an explanation of how to take impressions for Implant Dentures. While this technique is mainly geared towards fixed implant dentures, a similar technique can be used for removable implant overdentures. The main difference is that border molding is used when making removable overdentures.
There are many details that go into this treatment. And there are several different techniqes applied by different dentists. So, rather than trying to present an exhaustive account of what is done, I explain what works for me in clinical practice.
The other steps of the process are covered in the How to Make Fixed Implant Dentures Series in my Youtube Channel. These steps can be applied to dentures that are supported by a range of dental implants--most commonly 4 to six dental implants.
Some of the key topics covered in this video are:
1. How to connect the impression copings
2. How to make a custom tray for implant dentures
3. How to take the impression
This video should help you better understand this process and make you more comfortable with incorporating it into your clinical practice. I advise anyone looking to become competent providers of this treatment to thoroughly research implant denture treatment and take a hands-on course that includes management of complications.
I hope you learned something from the video! Thanks for watching!
