Transient CFD solutions can take an extremely long time to solve, but there are options to speed it up without sacrificing result validity. Mass must be preserved while pressures, temperatures, and fluid velocities are balanced across the entire domain for each time step. Because of this, and especially if the starting conditions aren't ambient values, a transient study can take a long time even if the goals for the study are simple. In calculation control options, solver options can be set that significantly simplify the calculation in one of a few ways. In this study the velocity distribution and the establishment of free convection does not change rapidly, so the fluid flow calculations can be frozen at periodic intervals while maintaining the thermal study calculations. Objects will continue to heat and the energy balance will be maintained without calculating the full fluid distribution at every single time step. Other options like Nested Iterations are an option and are discussed in the help file but not covered here.
