On 20 April, a new UN-led inter-agency humanitarian convoy has safely reached Chernihiv, a city in northern Ukraine that has been besieged until recently and is heavily impacted by the war. This is the first time the UN and our humanitarian partners have managed to deliver much-needed assistance to people living in Chernihiv and nearby communities and the fifth successful inter-agency humanitarian convoy since the escalation of hostilities.
The convoy delivered nine trucks of critical relief supplies for over 13,800 people in Chernihiv, that will be distributed by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and their local partners. This includes food for 5,000 people and infant cereal formula for 1,680 children provided by WFP and the NGO People in Need (PIN); plastic sheeting, jerrycans and blankets for 3,000 people from UNHCR; mattresses, thermal blankets, and solar lamps for 2,500 people from IOM; and water supplies for 1,664 people from People in Need.
