2 euro commemorative coins

The euro is the official currency of the European Union, and its member states issue euro coins as legal tender in their own territories. Since 2002, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the central banks of the euro countries have been issuing euro coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents, as well as €1 and €2. The €2 coin is the highest-value euro coin, and is typically used more for commemorative designs. These coins are legal tender throughout the eurozone, but they are not intended for general circulation and are only produced in limited numbers. The coins are usually issued as one-off designs to commemorate a particular event or person, or to commemorate a particular country joining the euro. The first 2-euro commemorative coin was issued in 2004 to commemorate the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
