Viper Mad - M'N'M 1996

New Orleans legend Sidney Bechet who introduced the soprano saxophone as a jazz instrument in the 1920s recorded in 1938 Viper Mad with the Noble Sissle's Swingsters. He roped in Sissle's vipers to sing: "Wrap your chops 'round this stick of tea / Blow this gage and get high with me / Good tea is my weakness, I know it's bad / It sends me gate and I can't wait, I'm viper mad."
This gives you an idea of the origin of this tune and also explains the hilarious introduction by banjoist Jimmy Mazzi and the amazing little jazz group named M'N'M.
Members are banjoist Jimmy Mazzi, tubaist Ely Newberger and clarinettist Joe Muranyi.
Joe Muranyi was the clarinet player with Louis Armstrong's All Stars between 1967 and 1971. Jimmy Mazzy, from the Boston area has played for years as a solo performer and tubaist Eli Newberger was the anchor in Boston's famous Black Eagle Jazz Band between 1971 and 2004.
They perform here at the 1996 Sancy Snow Jazz Festival in Mt Dore in France.
All three have been playing for many years together on jazz festivals world wide. It is that intimate jazz atmosphere they know to create in a combination of technique, control, jazz sense and good taste.
