The 7.4 Billion Panguil Bay Bridge, also called as the “Bridge of Peace and Unity,” is a 3.17-kilometer bridge that will connect the City of Tangub in Misamis Occidental to the Municipality of Tubod in Lanao del Norte

Considered as soon to be the longest bridge in Mindanao, pre-feasibility and implementation studies of the said project were done by multiple consultants between 1998 and 2008.

A final feasibility study was performed by SAMBO Engineering, which was funded by the International Contractors Association of Korea (ICAK) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea. But it was only during the term of President Benigno Aquino when the project evaluation report (PER) was presented to the Investment Coordination Committee-Technical Board (ICC-TB), which in turn endorsed the project to the ICC-Cabinet Committee for approval in October 2014.

The following year, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board approved the project for implementation.

In April 2016, the Philippine Government, under President Aquino, has signed a $100.13 Million dollar loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of Korea-Economic Development Cooperation Fund (KEXIM-EDCF) for the construction of the Panguil Bay bridge project.

President Duterte then took office, and led the ground breaking ceremony of the project in November 27, 2018; while project construction officially began in February 28, 2020.

At present, work has begun on the foundation of the Panguil Bay Bridge; while 15 of 54 boreholes for the Substructure of Panguil Bay Bridge had been completed at a depth ranging from 30 to 50 meters.

Scheduled for completion by December 2023, the project is now 22 percent complete as major equipment intensifies preparing the bridge’s foundation

Panguil Bay Bridge is touted as the biggest infrastructure project in Northern Mindanao not only because it is considered to be part of the Mega Bridge Masterplan that aims to link Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, but also because of the major economic benefits that the region will reap.

When finished, it will lessen travel time to from 1.5 or 2.5 hours, to only seven minutes.

At present, it takes 1.5 Hours via the 100-kilometer Tangub-Molave-Tubod Road route, and 2.5 hours via Tangub-Kapatagan-Tubod Road.

The bridge is expected to uplift the economic condition and encourage growth of tourism between the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte; while at the same timel accelerate the economic growth in the Mindanao regions by ensuring seamless transportation of goods and services.
