In the summer of 1949, Josef Eisemann keeps all of Vienna in suspense. To escape his financial difficulties, he puts on a special show for a month: a tightrope walk across the Danube Canal. Encouraged by the roaring crowd, he offers increasingly daring tricks on the tightrope during the four weeks. However, his final and grandest of all spectacles – crossing the rope with his daughter on his shoulders – costs them both their lives.
Eisemann is ON THE EDGE's first major self-produced production and not only wants to remember this special Viennese circus history, but also contribute to the further development of circus art – especially slack-rope acrobatics. The festival has invited the director duo Victoria Halper and Kai Krösche, as well as the acrobat Aurelia Eidenberger, to develop the piece together.
