So I hacked a fitness app (Strava) to make it show the true scale of the universe. Well, sort of. Using their api feels like you’re doing something illegal. I wasn’t though. I was always fascinated by these “True scale of the universe” videos and thought what if I. as a web developer, could use some javascript to allow anyone with the internet connection experience the true scale of the Universe themselves, interactively. Wouldn’t it be better than watching a video?

That thought occurred to me while I was working on a client project involving Strava.
So I thought, hmm… what if I can combine the two…?
This video is about how I did that.

I love Mark.

============= The app:
I didn’t have a chance build a nice site for it, so its just a script on the server and a link which will ask you to allow access to your Strava profile, so it can add stuff to the description of your newly created or modified activities:
https://www.strava.com/oauth/authoriz...

I’m also required to mention here that the sound of a water splash you hear in the beginning is
Splash, Jumping, G.wav by InspectorJ on freesound.org, Attribution 4.0.
How odd.
