Try out these recording hacks to make your home recording sound better.

1) Thicken Guitar Tone:
Record the guitar twice and pan them hard left and right. Bonus if you make subtle changes on each track.

2) Find Problem Frequencies:
Open your EQ plugin, set a high Q, turn the volume all the way up, and scroll up and down the frequencies until you find the problem, then duck it.

3) Untangle Monitor Cables:
Get a small carabiner (link: https://amzn.to/2JiwyRy) and tape it to the end of the cable, then attach it to a belt loop. I don't know WHY, but this makes a night and day difference.

4) Bitcrushed Drums:
Put bit crusher or bit destroyer on your drum bus and play around with the settings. Works great for quick interludes

5) Guitar Pedals on Drums:
One of my favorites! Use an aux out on your mixer with just the drums to send the signal to some pedals, then bring them back into the mixer in another channel. Check out this video for more in-depth ideas:    • Pedalboard + Drums = 🤩🤩🤩

Bonus) Fix Distorted Mix:
I can't tell you the number of times I've had everything perfectly automated in a mix, only to realize that the level is either too loud or too quiet. Easy fix? just put a master gain before your final compression/eq. This is non-destructive, and will in essence act like each channel was turned up/down to the appropriate level.
