Poetically my longest hunt.
The fucking odds of this... The one shiny here you can't 100% fully prepare for at 5%, 40k+ pokemon seen, and my man buck kills it to get some sweet XP for his Claydol. I can safely say that I was not expecting to get Koffing here at all, for the record. Before I get a bunch of comments asking why I didn't kill Buck's pokemon first, I mention my thought process in the video briefly but I'll go into more detail down here. The Koffing here has both Memento and Explosion, requiring the lead of a Damper at the very least. There's literally nothing you can do about Memento for the first couple turns, at least the way I prepared, so whether it uses that becomes a crap shoot. Anyway, I had decided to attack the opposing Pokemon first because from what I had noticed while being in Stark with Buck he usually sets up screens with his Claydol, which would have worked out well. His other two attacking moves are Ancient Power and Psychic. The latter will kill Koffing no matter what, but barring a crit it can live an Ancient Power. So the way I had thought it would play out the way I did it, would be a 25% the Claydol uses Psychic and kills it plus another 25% chance it uses Memento. My other option was to kill the Claydol then the adjacent pokemon which would have given Koffing two turns to use Memento at 25% each, instead of one. From either of those ways, if it lived, I would have just chucked a Dusk Ball for a 99.994% chance to catch. Because of that, my philosophy was that either way I did it there would be two 25% chances it would die both ways. However, as I noticed after the video, the Claydol seems to have a tendency to attack the poison types there with Psychic... but only sometimes because as you'll see it will STILL setup screens on occasions. Again, anyway you slice it there's no 100% risk free way to catch a Koffing here when doing double encounters. So at the very least, this video hopefully demonstrates some of the worst luck you can have shiny hunting, or another one of the many egregious examples of stupidity on a hunter's end.
tl;dr, It might have been stupid not to attack the Claydol first but then again maybe it wasnt so haha lol fml.
