White Lion "Romeo" Rescued from Circus, Arrives at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary | FOUR PAWS USA
Welcome to LIONSROCK, Romeo!
Nothing beats the sight of a rescued animal arriving at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary for the first time. The wonder in their eyes, when they carefully examine their new home, with cautious, tired eyes from the long transfer. The sight of Romeo, gently touched by the South African sun is something none who were present will ever forget.
Romeo had been saved as a victim of circus abuse and spent months at the Belgium NGO Natuurhulpcentrum who had their hands full in keeping him alive. Now he finally was ready for the journey to his permanent new home. After a quick layover in Doha he touched ground at Johannesburg airport. The amount of paperwork needed for such a transfer can be overwhelming and we are happy and proud to say that all the health and transport certificates were in order, and we experienced no trouble whatsoever.
After all customs were cleared, Romeo was taken on a truck for the last leg of the trip, a 3.5-hour drive to LIONSROCK.
