What does it mean if a song is "lo-fi"?
"Lo-fi" refers to a recording that doesn't sound as good as it could. "lo-fi" is a short form of "low fidelity." It meant a recording that was cheaply made and had mistakes or background noise. This was neither "high fidelity" nor "hi-fi." People thought that lo-fi music sounded more like real life than professional music in the 1980s and 1990s.
