Bauernfest Petrópolis, also known as Festa do Colono Alemão, is an annual event that celebrates German culture and traditions in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. In 2024, the party took place between June 21st and July 7th, taking over the Crystal Palace and surrounding areas, as well as the city's Historic Center.
With more than three decades of history, Bauernfest has established itself as the second largest event of its kind in Brazil, attracting thousands of visitors to each edition. During the festival days, the city transforms into a true German town, with decorated streets, typical music, folk dances, cultural workshops and, of course, lots of German cuisine and craft beer.
Among the main attractions at Bauernfest 2024 were performances by German folk groups from different regions of the country, as well as local bands and artists who entertained the audience with live music. For children, there was a dedicated space with children's recreation, games and traditional games.
German cuisine was also one of the highlights of the party, with several stands offering typical dishes such as pork knuckle, sausages, sauerkraut and Apfelstrudel. To accompany it, the public could choose from a variety of artisanal draft beers produced in Petrópolis and other cities in the region.
In addition to the cultural and gastronomic program, Bauernfest also featured several traditional competitions, such as beer in the metro, choosing the queen and princesses of the party and the German cooking competition.
Bauernfest 2024 was a great success, bringing together thousands of people to celebrate German culture and enjoy the festive days in the Imperial City. The party is a great opportunity to learn a little more about the history and traditions of the German immigrants who colonized the region, as well as have fun with family and friends.
