The Apple AirTags came out about two months ago and in these two months, I learned a lot about this new device. There are things done well and also some major burdens I faced. This video is an outline of my top frustrations and favorite features.

Let’s start with what I like about the AirTags:
FindMy works on all Apple devices
1 for $29, 4 for $99
Replaceable battery
1 year battery life (notification when it gets low)
Personalized engraving
IP67 water resistant
Lost Mode - lets Android or other iPhone contact you
Works with Siri
Shortcuts - Automations - Create new NFC option - Scan airtag (this can do whatever you want)

This needs iOS 14.5 or higher. Conveniently, I am giving away an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Link in top of the description

What I don’t like:
CANNOT FIND MY PHONE
Beeps when your phone is not around
No button
Look cool, but no loop? Need to buy special Apple loops
Accessories (ESR has a cheap one with a nice ring, ⅓ the price of Apple)
Keys scratch it

Apple loves to talk about how they value your privacy. So let’s talk about that with the AirTags
It never asks for permissions (unlike Tile which needs to ask for a million things)
Location is encrypted (only your phone can know where or what it is)
THIS IS THE DILEMMA:
Malicious use - AirTag movement alert (an AirTag is following you - you can disable it)
Thief can easily disable airtag since they would be notified that they are being tracked
Hard to distinguish between thief and victim of stalking
