What is it like to live like an astrophysicist? The stories of Amber Straughn, Dr. Natalie Hinkel, and Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein offer us amazing insights into the lives of people who work in the field.
Amber Straughn is employed at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, and takes on a science communicator role as scientific liaison from the JWST science team to NASA’s outreach teams and associate director of the astrophysics science division.
Dr. Natalie Hinkel is a Postdoctoral Researcher who conducts research on spectroscopy and exoplanet research. However, she spends most of her days doing programming and coding, and her work is relatively autonomous. She is on track to receive a full-time position as a professor or a researcher at an observatory.
Similarly, Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein does research on axions but also does work in the community to promote science to minority communities. Her favorite part of her job is discovering more about the connection between the universe and mathematics.
