Paris in the Portal: Alignment and Basketball Character
It's no secret that South Carolina men's basketball coach Lamont Paris found the right blend of transfer portal talent to bolster his roster in 2023-24. Paris, the consensus SEC Coach of the Year, has the Gamecocks at 25-6 (the most regular season wins in program history) and in line for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Ta'lon Cooper (Minnesota), B.J. Mack (Wofford), Myles Stute (Vanderbilt) and Stephen Clark (The Citadel) have all played key roles one way or another for Carolina this season.
So how did Paris and staff knock it out of the park evaluation-wise? They have two primary criteria- role alignment and basketball character- that they evaluate players on. Paris joined Inside the Gamecocks The Show on March 12, 2024 and went in-depth as to what exactly that is.
