2021 Dusty Rusteze and Rusty Rusteze 2-pack reviewed by COOLection TV. Today we're looking at Rusty and Dusty Rusteze from Disney Cars Mattel 2021. They are now made in Thailand, whereas before they were made in China. These new variants have several new features. Dusty has a more vibrant green color, a white stripe, and more dirt detail. Rusty now has dirt all over him, along with a white grille and bumper, gray side windows, and a faded back window.
Dusty is a 1967 Dodge A100 Van, while Rusty is an older, 1963 Dodge Dart. The Rusteze brothers are played by the former brotherly hosts of Car Talk, Ray and Tom Magliozzi. Tom, who played Rusty actually owned a Dodge Dart in real life. Sadly, Tom Magliozzi passed away several years before Cars 3 was released so Pixar used a few archived recordings of his voice to keep him alive in the Cars franchise.
Rusty and Dusty first appear in the first Cars film after the Motor Speedway of the South in their infamous Rusteze tent. Here, they sell Rusteze Medicated Bumper Ointment and crack jokes about each other. This embarrasses Lightning McQueen which is why he wants the Dinoco sponsorship so badly. As he leaves to go to Los Angeles, Dusty and Rusty say goodbye to their friend by saying their iconic "Don't drive like my brother!" catchphrases. Later, they appear on the news, unaware of where McQueen disappeared to. Finally, they appear at the end of the tiebreaker race in Los Angeles, proud of Lightning's sacrifice for the King. They then crack more jokes with all of McQueen's friends as he declines the Dinoco sponsorship.
In Cars 3, Rusty & Dusty appear at the beginning of the film selling their new rear end formula at the races. They then get depressed when Jackson Storm enters the circuit as McQueen begins to have a losing streak at Heartland Motor Speedway. They then decide to sell the Rusteze company and a few months later, after Lightning's crash, they convince him to return to the Piston Cup by visiting the brand new Rusteze Racing Center to train for the Florida 500. Once there, Dusty & Rusty announce to Lightning McQueen that they sold the company to Sterling. After they visit for a bit, the Rusteze brothers head out and say one last goodbye to Lightning. They remind him not to drive like their brother. Lastly, they appear in a picture in the credits of Cars 3, relaxing and enjoying their retirement on Fireball Beach.
