AI/ML in Aviation – Building on Foundational Standards to Assure Safety
FAA’s Dr. Trung T. Pham, Chief Scientist and Technical Advisor (CSTA) for Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Machine Learning, joins RTCA for an engaging discussion relative to AI and ML in aviation software. Dr. Pham highlights the FAA’s focus on safety assurance and the potential role of existing standards, such as DO-178C, to support AI/ML implementation in software for aviation systems. An author of more than 50 technical publications, Dr. Pham is preparing a new technical guidance document on AI/ML set for publication this Fall. Dr. Pham supports leadership in research and knowledge related to how AI & Machine Learning may be used in aviation systems, and how to evaluate integration of components based on AI & Machine Learning with aircraft software.
