In what may come as a jolt to the BJP leadership in the state, Olympian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, in presence of senior party leadership, at the AICC Headquarters, on 6 September.
The duo, hailing from Haryana, was at the forefront of the wrestlers’ protest against former BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, for alleged sexual harassment.
