In this video I demonstrate an old darkroom technique for photographing landscapes, where, instead of graduated filters, I move ND filters in front of the lens. Basically, it's a burn and dodge during a long exposure technique.
This technique is particularly useful if you’re in an environment where graduated filters don’t block light in the right areas.
By using this burn and dodge technique, I was able to darken particular areas of the image, similarly to how we would have processed the image in the darkroom. Although I used ND filters in this video, black card would have worked just as well too.
I hope you enjoy this video and find this technique useful! Remember, you can find more great landscape photography classes (as well as thousands of other tutorials) over at Karl Taylor Education.
