Microsoft Visio connecting shapes describes the two different ways of connecting objects using the connection tool. When moving shapes with connectors, there are two types of connections. Firstly a point to point connection that keeps the connected line glued to the same connection points and secondly a shape to shape connection, which means the line will connect to the closest connection points.
