Plot Synopsis: Rigadin, on a dark day, plays the violin in the courtyards. Afflicted by a surly little woman full of contempt for her husband's unproductive talent, Rigadin, humble and gentle, bows his back and eats without complaining the dry bread sprinkled with water that she gives him. A newspaper ad asking for a gypsy violin inspires the ingenious Julie to give her husband the physique for the job. Thanks to a bit of tow stuck to his flat hair, conquering mustaches and a rabbit skin hat, the transformed musician shows up at the Chalet des Îles where a wedding party is to be danced. Its success is mediocre. But on the other hand, thanks to his advantageous physique, he conquers the opulent mother-in-law. Fate wants that Julie meets the comic couple. Furious, she spills the beans and mother-in-law lets them do their dirty laundry as a family while taking a careful retirement. More lamentable and more battered than ever, Rigadin returns to the marital roof where soon a waiter brings a letter from the owner of the Chalet des Îles, paying homage to Rigadin's little-known talent and offering him a job as a conductor. Julie now tamed, as obsequious and servile as she was cantankerous in the past, contemplates with tender eyes the great artist whom she had not been able to understand.
