One Piece Romance Dawn Version 1 Monkey D. Luffy vs Gally Crescent Moon Pirates. Luffy defeats defeats the pirates looking for food. A town panics as Crescent Moon Galley sails to port. The mayor wants to pay the pirates to save the town. Silk says let's fight! Everyone tells Silk to be quiet. They do not want to fight pirates.
Gally claims he was caught off-guard but Luffy says Gally started the fight. Gally says Luffy has made an enemy of one of the three most fearsome pirates on the sea but Luffy runs off in search of food.
The port town people see Luffy get off the ship & think he is a Gally Pirate. Luffy is looking for food. Mayor directs Luffy to Silk's Cafe. Silk attacks Luffy as he explains he is not a Gally pirate. Silk thinks she killed Luffy with her sword but she cut his straw hat. Seeing how upset Luffy is about his treasured Straw Hat being damaged Silk feels bad. Silk offers Luffy food. As Luffy eats he tells Silk he is going to become a Peace Main pirate & explains the different kinds of pirates in the world Peace Main Vs Morganeer Pirates. Pirates that go around plundering are called Morgania. Pirates that go adventures are called Peace Main pirates. Luffy wants to recruit a crew of Peace Main pirates for his crew. The Straw Hat is his treasured gift from Red Haired Shanks a great Peace Main pirate & a promise made long ago in the town where Luffy grew up.
Kid Luffy was made fun of by Red-Haired Shanks Crew about Luffy becoming a pirate. Shanks says Luffy has guts going out in his boat every day. Luffy eats a fruit on the bar. Shanks & crew react with horror. Luffy Ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit from a mysterious tree that grows fruit only once every 50 years. Shanks Crew stole the fruit from an enemy ship. Because Luffy ate it he will never be able to swim again. Luffy rows out to sea thinking he will be all right as long as he does not fall into the water. Suddenly Luffy's ship is attacked by a shark. Luffy screams for help. Shanks arrives & tells the shark to get lost but the Shark bit off Shanks left arm. Shanks & crew move on as Luffy begs them to take him. Shanks leaves his straw hat with Luffy telling Luffy to give it back after he becomes a great pirate.
Silk knows Red-Haired Shanks is a famous pirate. Silk admits she's the child of a pirate that was abandoned as a baby. This Town raised Silk so this Town is Silk's Treasure. A treasure worth fighting for. Gally wanted revenge on Luffy but instead Luffy sinks Gally's ship. The townspeople wish Luffy well as he sails off with a new Jolly Roger banner on his sail.
Many Years later Silk & Galley wake their captain to inform him they've spotted an island. Luffy with a beard tells them to head ashore. The name Straw Hat Luffy will spread far & wide as King of the Pirates! That's for another story.
