Jackie Andrade is a professor of psychology at the University of Plymouth. She uses psychological theory and methods to solve problems, ranging from weight loss and behaviour change to preventing accidental awareness during anaesthesia. In collaboration with colleagues in Australia and Plymouth, she developed functional imagery training (FIT) as an intervention to strengthen motivation. Her PhD student Linda Solbrig ran the first ever trial of FIT for weight loss, finding that participants lost 5 times as much weight with FIT than with established motivational support, and they kept losing weight by themselves once the intervention ended.
