It’s the little things in life…
“It was 1:35 AM, I was standing under a tree, with 4-5 food parcels. Bahut tez baarish ho rahi thi, aur sab jagah pani bhara hua tha. At that moment, the first thought that came to my mind was, ‘I shouldn’t have taken the order.’ Par jab liya tha, kaam toh pura karna tha. So a few seconds later, I covered my face, put on my raincoat and prayed, ‘Bhagwan bacha lena,’ and left.
I reached the customer’s building. It was empty. I thought, ‘Koi fraud delivery toh nahi hai?’ It happens a lot with us, after 12 AM, people order and then…vanish! Darte darte, I went up the stairs and rang the bell. No one opened. I rang the bell again, that’s when Yash bhai opened the door. He and his friends were there at the door. I thought, ‘They will scold me for the late delivery.’ But the moment they opened the door, one of them asked, ‘Aaj aapka birthday hai?’ And that’s when it struck me…it was 26th August, it was, in fact, my birthday. Kaam mei dhyan hi nai aaya.
Yash bhai and his friends began singing ‘Happy birthday’ for me. It instantly brought a smile to my face. It was such an emotional moment for me. They treated me like a celebrity. They gave me a box…usme perfume tha. Then they even shook hands with me. In that one moment…I was no longer a delivery agent and they were no longer a customer. The relationship was way beyond it…ho sakta hai toh dosti bhi bol sakte hai. After all the wishes, I left their building with a smile. I delivered the rest of the parcels, reached home next morning at 6 AM and slept.
When I woke up, my wife said, ‘It is your birthday and you were working so late?’ I just smiled and said, ‘Hogaya mera birthday.’ She gave me a very confused look. And when I told her about the incident, she just said, ‘Aisa thodi na hota hai.’
And sahi me…aisa thodi na hota hai. In my three years as a delivery agent, mere saath toh pehli baar hua hai. I have heard a lot of, ‘Delivery late hua hai, paise nahi dungi.’ ‘Tumlog toh timepass karte rehte ho.’ But never had I experienced 4 strangers just being happy about my birthday. Mai zindagi bhar yaad rakhunga. Kyu ki aise pal aur log zindagi main mushkil se milte hai…mujhe toh 24 saal baad mile.”
