As mesh models become more popular in applications like scanning and printing, SOLIDWORKS introduces a new set of tools to make this workflow easier and more powerful. Decimation allows extremely large mesh models to be reduced in complexity without sacrificing fine detail. Reference geometry can also be defined directly based on mesh geometry such as a cylindrical mesh face being used to locate and define an axis. Finally, the mesh can be directly compared to solid geometry with a deviation plot to analyze the variance. This analysis will be useful in confirming the accuracy of a reverse-engineered model or a part scan relative to the original design. Our own Doug Enns takes us through an example and shows off these new features.
