Film, Tv, Commercials:
Cinema Style camera: Red, Arri, Blackmagic, Sony FX6 or FX9. (or for small commercials high end mirrorless). Cinema lenses are your best friend. Renting a set of nice lenses is ideal but if looking to purchase anything in the $600-$1200 range is a safe bet. Anamorphic lenses are also a good choice depending on style. Lots of rigging and accessories like large monitors, stabilizers and dolly’s are nice if within budget.
Sports: Mirrorless camera with high frame rat options (a crop is okay for 60p). FX6 is a great choice as well since it’s somewhat hybrid between a mirrorless and cinema camera. Zoom lenses are an absolute must. A 24-70 and 70-200 are the best however a 2.8 lens isn’t always needed. Prime lenses or even cine lenses are great for pre-game and post game.
Weddings: similar to sports and documentary mirrorless cameras with higher frame rates are a good choice. Again zoom lenses like the 24-70 2.8 In particular are good. Outside of the ceremony I prefer shooting with fast prime cine lenses but that is up to you. Gimbals are not necessary but I find them to be an essential part of my style.
Documentary: Sony box style cameras are a great choice (FX6, FX9, and Burano). Zooms like the 24-70 and 70-200 and great but every documentary is different. Sometimes gimbals and a mirrorless camera is a good choice sometimes a more expansive rig is the best option. This one is really case by case.
