Installing Proxmox VE 7.x on Debian Bullseye for custom partition layout | Homelab Operations Center
Proxmox should usually be installed via its installer, but if you want a custom root partition layout that the installer can't give you, installing on top of Debian is the answer. In my case, I'm installing Proxmox on my little tiny Dell Wyse 3040 thin client. The Proxmox installer wasn't happy with eMMC storage, and I wanted an ext4 root without LVM anyway (an option the installer won't allow).
Proxmox has a guide on how to do this for PVE 6 and Debian Buster, and not a lot has changed for Bullseye, although I've made a note of all of the differences. So, follow along as I set up this little box to run Proxmox by installing Debian first.
