September 3 marks the Day of Victory over militaristic Japan and the end of the Second World War.
The Soviet-Japanese War lasted less than a month – from August 9 to September 2, 1945.
The Red Army and Soviet Navy together with Mongolian forces in 23 days of military actions caused the greatest defeat to Imperial Japan in the Second World War. Japan lost its strongest group of ground forces.
On September 2, the Act of Surrender of Japan was signed.
The Japanese were not defeated by the American atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and ordinary Soviet and Mongolian soldiers, among whom fought our relatives and friends, my grandfather also fought there.
Our troops defeated the million-strong Kwantung Army, liberated China and North Korea from Japanese invaders. The Soviet Union regained Southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.
Let this victory remind us of the courage and heroism of the Soviet and Mongolian warriors!
Glory to the heroes and blessed memory of those who died in the name of peace and freedom!
