Is it possible for a middle-class student to study at BITS Pilani?
The short answer is mostly no, but there is a way through scholarships!
Hi, I'm Somrat Dutta, a Bachelor of Engineering in Economics and Computer Science from BITS Pilani and a full-time software developer at a top MNC. In this video, I provide a no-nonsense guide on scholarships available at BITS Pilani.

I've completed my five years under the scholarship scheme at BITS Pilani. I also made a detailed video about the BITS Pilani fees in 2024. You can check it out for more information. For a single degree, it costs around 27 lakhs, and for a dual degree, it's about 35 lakhs.
Key Points Covered:
1. Types of Scholarships:
Merit Scholarship: Requires you to be in the top 1% of students to get 100% on tuition fees.
Merit-cum-Need (MCN) Scholarship: A bit easier to obtain. If your family income is less than 15 lakhs per year, you are eligible. You need to submit your parents' ITR (Income Tax Return) form every year.
2. Statistics and Eligibility:
Only about 30% of students at BITS Pilani study under some form of scholarship.
In the 2023 batch, 10 students received a 100% merit scholarship, 20 received 40%, and 28 received an MCN scholarship at 80%.
The CGPA cut-offs for different scholarships are also discussed in detail.
3. Additional Financial Aid:
Teaching Assistantship (TA): Apply if you have good grades. TA positions are paid, providing up to 20,000 INR for lab courses and 18,000 INR for non-lab courses per semester.
Realistic Scenario:
With an 80% MCN scholarship, your five-year fees can come down to just under 12 lakhs. Even if you receive a 40% MCN scholarship, the fees can be manageable with proper planning and additional financial aid.
