Diary to self
5 years ago I discovered 3d modeling- I fell in love! I never really knew where it would go or what the possibilities as a 3D artist were. One thing I knew for sure, I was going on a journey!
I discovered an awesome community, got myself familiar with theory and software and started to practice everyday. For three years straight I was doing random projects from modeling to sculpting, trying out environment art to completely doing nothing because I felt I was total sh*t at it!
One important thing that my dad taught me is to never give up! After a year I picked up something called Architectural Visualization (Archviz). Having no idea what it was I started to google for weeks. The archviz industry was mainly dominated by software like 3ds max and V-ray. in my first few years of becoming an artist I grew to hate 3ds max, It just wasn't for me I'm a total Blender geek! So I just gave things a shot- let's try to create archviz using Blender and Unreal Engine- software I was already familiar with. My first three months were hell. At the time it was such a small niche, wich made it hard to find study material or even believe it was possible to achieve similar photorealistic results using a real-time render engine.
After a while I stumbled upon David Baylis, who at the time was doing a similar thing using Unreal Engine. This was motivating as hell, thanks David!
Now knowing it was possible, I grinded for hours on end every single day, pushing and pushing myself. A few projects later I got a strange notification on instagram- “Substance by Adobe shared your work” I remember running downstairs and yelling to my parents; “I F*CK*NG MADE IT” (obviously not lol, but at the time it felt unreal!)
This kept motivation so f*ck*ng high that there wasn't a possibility to ever stop with what i'm doing. One thing led to another and there I was working for Artstation/Epic games, Fijn Wonen and did interviews with adobe, blender archviz and 3D World Magazine!
It's been a crazy journey and I'm very thankful for all the opportunities! I can't wait to see what the future brings! bring it on!
Special thanks to @davidbaylisdesign and @Beddowsdesign for being two incredibly kind people that were always there to help me! you guys are amazing!
