Paul composed it for the movie at his partner Jane Asher's house. The Beatles never performed it live. Paul McCartney played it in a concert for the first time at Yankee Stadium on July 15, 2011. The Beatles recorded the song at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios) in London on February 17, 1965. The band reached a satisfying rhythm track after two takes, then overdubbed the vocals, guitar parts and maracas. The guitar solo in the third verse is repeated in part in the coda. Among the Beatles' biographers, Ian MacDonald believes the way he plays is more McCartney's style, while Kenneth Womack only attributes McCartney the role of soloist and lists Harrison on rhythm guitar, playing his Gretsch Tennessean. However, the solos were performed by Harrison and McCartney together. Lennon later recalled that Harrison and McCartney played exactly "the same pause, playing both but in different octaves".
